The Unique Challenges of Senior Eye Care
Seniors must pay close and special attention to their eyes, as there are many harmful conditions that develop and worsen as we get older in age. Many seniors will experience a gradual decrease in effective vision starting around age 65, though it may happen sooner. Chronic eye conditions develop more quickly, and the consequences of ignoring them can your condition to worsen.
The following age-related eye conditions and disorders often affect our elderly and geriatric patients:
- Diabetic eye diseases
- Hypertension-related disorders
- Dry eye disorders
- Low-light vision
- Cataract development
- Age-related macular degeneration
As a senior you must be watchful for these disorders, as they can lead to permanent vision damage, or reveal other underlying health issues. You should consider annual exams cross over the age of 65 threshold.
