Natural Ways to Treat Pink Eye

Home treatment for pink eye can be done through natural methods. Most pink eye cases will subside after a few days. If pink eye persists for more than a week, you should see a doctor because it’s possible for the infection to spread to other areas of the eye or become more severe.

  • Compress.
  • Wipe eyes in a sanitary manner.
  • Do not go to school or work.

Use a warm or cold compress to sooth the eye. Use a clean compress each time you apply it to the eye. For a warm compress, set the towel or compress in warm water. The heat will alleviate any pain or throbbing felt through the eye. A cool compress can be done with a towel or compress ran under tap water. You do not want the water or compress to be cold since this can cause too much sensation on the eye.

When wiping puss or liquids from the eye area, do so in a sanitary manner. Wipe eyes from the inner portion of the rim outwards. Never reuse the same rag or tissue to wipe liquids from the eyes since this can spread germs and worsen your condition.

Most cases of pink eye are highly contagious. Stay home from school or work until you see the pink eye residing. For most, this will be within three days of the initial encounter with pink eye. Get plenty of fluids and rest which allows your body to heal quickly.
